Samadhi
is an ancient Sanskrit word, for which there is no modern equivalent.
There is a fundamental challenge with making a film about Samadhi.
Samadhi points to something that can’t be conveyed on the level of mind.
This film is simply the outer manifestation of my own inner journey.
The intention is not to teach you about Samadhi, or provide information for your mind, but to inspire you to directly discover your true nature.

“三摩地”
是一个古老的梵语词汇，现在没有与之含义相同的词了。
要制作一部关于“三摩地”的影片，会遇到一个重大的挑战。
“三摩地”指的是某种在思维层面无法表达的东西。
这部影片只是我自己心路历程的展示。
目的不是要向你传授“三摩地”，也不是要给你洗脑，而是要启发你去直面你的本性。

The ultimate object that you achieve on the path is the wisdom (that differentiates, comprehensively and without confusion, the real nature and diversity of phenomena). As the master Matrceta states, “…omniscience is best amongst wisdoms.“

道所修证最究竟者，如敬母阿阇黎云：‘慧中如遍智，’，谓能无杂简择一切如所有性，尽所有性，即是慧故。

Therefore, the Buddha says that any achievement of a virtuous quality in the three vehicles requires a state of mind that is both

(1) an actual meditative serenity, or a similitude of it, which rests one-pointedly on its virtuous object of meditation without wandering from it; and

(2) an actual insight, or a similitude of it, which carefully analyzes a virtuous object of meditation and distinguishes both the real nature and the diversity of phenomena.

故说引发三乘一切功德，皆须二事，一除善所缘心不余散，专一而住真奢摩他或其随顺。二善观察善所缘境，如所有性尽所有性，毗钵舍那或其随顺。

In particular, you need the main method –the spirit of enlightenment– and the main wisdom –the knowledge of emptiness. If you only meditate on one of them, and diligently seek merely to be liberated from cyclic existence, then you have to meditate the meaning of emptiness -selflessness- without mistaking meditative serenity for insight. Nonetheless, if you claim to be a Mahayana practitioner, then you must be practicing the spirit of enlightenment as well.

特须方便上首发菩提心，智慧上首通达空性。设修一分而未全修，若唯希求解脱生死，于奢摩他须莫误为毗钵舍那，善修无我空性之义。然若自许是大乘者，是则必须修菩提心。

I have arranged both this section on acting vigilantly and the section on restraining the sensory faculties in accordance with the noble being Asanga’s citations of Sütras and the subsequent commentaries on the meaning of those citations.

Work on these practices, for it is said that if you do, you will have unusual success in all your virtuous practices;

In particular, your ethical discipline will be completely pure; and you will easily attain the nondiscursive states of concentration (samadhi) that comprise meditative serenity and insight.

此（正知而行）与密护根门二者，如圣无着引经解释而正录取。若能励力修此二事，则能增长一切善行，非余能等。特能清净尸罗及能速引止观所摄无分别心胜三摩地，故应勤学。
